NORSK E-FUEL SECURES PROMISING SITE IN IMATRA, FINLAND, FOR FUTURE EXPANSION

05th of December 2024, Oslo (Norway), Imatra (Finland)

Norsk e-Fuel has secured a greenfield site in Imatra, Finland, as part of its strategic project pipeline. With sufficient space to build an 80,000-ton e-Fuel plant and potential for further expansion, this site represents a significant step in the company’s vision to scale up renewable fuel production for a more sustainable future.

Norwegian e-Fuel project developer Norsk e-Fuel has secured exclusive access to approximately 19.7 hectares of land by signing a land reservation agreement with the City of Imatra. The site is located in one of the country’s most important industrial regions in the southeastern Finland. While Project Imatra will take time to develop, its strategic potential is undeniable and offers a great opportunity for the company to grow the e-Fuel production in the future. This includes well-established infrastructures with strong rail and road connections and excellent opportunities to expand the power grid. In addition, the potential for collaboration with other industrial companies in the area and the availability of additional 18.8 hectars of land for even further expansions make Project Imatra attractive.

“The site in Imatra demonstrates our commitment to building a robust pipeline for future growth,” said Lars Bjørn Larsen, CCO of Norsk e-Fuel. “Although the development here will take longer compared to pre-developed, industrial sites due to its greenfield nature, the site's huge potential makes it a promising addition to our portfolio. We are excited to begin preparatory work next year and look forward to develop the site for future e-Fuel production.”

Development work on the Imatra site will be started in 2025 and focus on tasks related to permitting, site preparation and infrastructure planning. As a greenfield location, the project will require careful and phased progress. However, the extensive space and strategic location of the site present Norsk e-Fuel with an excellent opportunity to expand operations.

“We are very pleased to be able to take a step into the future together with Norsk-e-Fuel. The company has strong background, and we cannot think of a better partner to develop a new generation of industry in Imatra. Imatra has a long industrial history, and the electrification of the whole of Finland started from here a hundred years ago. It is very honoured that Norsk-e-Fuel has chosen Imatra as one of its partners in Finland”, says Matias Hilden, Mayor of Imatra.

Norsk e-Fuel remains committed to its mission of delivering renewable fuel solutions and advancing industrial-scale e-Fuel production. The Imatra site adds to the company’s growing portfolio of projects designed to drive the energy transition of the aviation industry and to provide their customer airlines with fossil-free fuels.
